It is entirely possible that I have fixed my last bug on the Goblet of Fire game. All that remains is some poor soul toasts about 8 million copies in 10 languages before the 11th of Novemeber.
Its been a crazy 2 months working pretty much 11 hour days and 6 day weeks on average. It is the best game i've worked on by a country mile and i'm actually pretty proud to have put so much into it. Predictions place it selling 5 million copies before Christmas. Cool and scary at the same time.
Hoepfully by this weekend coming my life can descend into what passes for 'normal' on my little scale and I can get back to doing things like 'washing clothes' and 'housework'. Possibly even 'meeting girls' but i'm not really holding my breath on that one.
I've been living at the Streatham Common house now for around 5 months and its all going pretty swimmingly. No major fights between the houseys and plenty of weekeneds where i've actually been able to sit in the sun in our backyard thanks to how damn good the summer has been over here this year. Suprised the hell out of me. Winter is defnitely on its way in now though...
I done very little on the DJ front apart from spend silly amounts of money on records I rarely get to play. I managed to DJ my frineds 30th birthday a few weeks back... although the guy managed to get mugged on his way to the party which ha to go down as an all-time low on your 30th. Especially as he was stuck on the wrong side of London from his party with no transport money or phone. Hopefully he'll look back and laugh someday.
Big housewarming/send-off-for-a-friend party this weekend at our place which i'm really looking forward to although i'm a little scared of at the same time. Not quite sure how the house is going to hold up if we all have to be inside. Hopefully i can get through it with nothing getting broken and without that lovely morning feeling when you remember all the stupid things you did the night before.
I'm really looking forward to having no crunch time for another 9 months.... |

| Don't lose your phone |

Is it just me or is everyone losing their phone this month? I count about 8 or 9 people I know have lost it sometime in July. Now including me. I'm not quite sure how I can lose my phone out of the zipped or big-velcro-flapped pockets I had at the time but it certainly wasn't there upon my return home.
Naturally i'd met heaps of cool people that day, grabbed their numbers and BOOM its all gone.
I treid to sign up for a new phone with o2 having never been on a Plan before. Alas their Plan didn't include me and thus I was denied a new phone for 'credit reasons'. 24 hours of panicing about my credit rating later I figued out this actually meant I don't have any credit rating.
Why do I need to have debt and then pay it off before they'll trust me? Don't I have an honest face? Maybe I should have placed a fiver on the floor then picked it up and asked if it was his first?
But anyway. Orange were good enough to give me a new phone which should helpfully be delivered to my place-of-residence on a random future day whilst I will be at work. Useful.
Its quite weird how much more alone you feel in the world without your phone making your leg jump about every hour or so. |

The Game shop here at EA just got in a limited supply of Killer7 (a game i've been wanting quite badly) and we can just pick it up for a tenner! Its not even an EA game!
So thats God of War and Killer 7. I think I may explode with geeky goodness. |

I have my PS2 copy of God Of War. That is my Friday night well and truly sorted.
Saturday I plan to an 18 hour clubbing stint of pure breakbeat and Sunday I shall recover.

It seems working well outside London has been good and bad today.
Thank god though all my friends I can think of have checked in and are fine. Some of them have even found a pub or 2.
Still can't really do any work though and I kind of have to today. I don't get how other people are concentrating... |

Once again I neglect thee, Livejournal.
Now that I have my internet back i'm so damn busy all the time I never keep this tarnation thing updated and as so much has happened I feel my fingers will fall off if I attempt. So it is with added finger lube that I make this entry...
I WENT TO IBIZA! For a whole week! I actually look tanned at the moment. Its amazing how much I craved the sun while I was there given that typically I shy away from it at every available oppurtunity. I went down there with Lisa and her friends which was a trip we had booked before we broke up. Amazingly there were very little dramas and whole lot of music/drinking/sunning to be had. I really enjoyed the trip a lot more than the previous year as the year before everythign had been 'pre-arranged' so basically I just turned up and followed the itinerary that my friends had laid down with very little need for thinking or chance for diversion from said plan. This year we made all our own mistakes. And boy did we. But I survived, took some amazing photos, clubbed til I dropped (nearly) and actually made it back looking healthier than when I left.
Ea has been keeping me real busy with Harry Potter type stuff but i'm still really enjoying it. We're heading into crunch time which will mean longer hours all over the pace but the game is really coming along so I don't mind one little bit. I'm even getting to know some of the people here. Although mostly the drinking crowd.
I haven't been sleeping well because of the constant light coming in my bedroom windows so last night I bit the bullet after waiting too long for my landlord to install black-out blinds and just boarded up the windows with anything that came to hand. And so I finally slept... Ironically, in Ibiza I slept for 14 hours at a time directly next to a festival that was letting off firecrackers and other bang-type objects all during the day and slept through the whole thing fine but still couldn't sleep in my room. Weird.
Lisa and I have re-broken up after essentially getting back together for the Ibiza trip. We're both still talking a fair bit but I think the space is working for me at the moment. The way the next 3 months are looking I don't think i'm going to have much time to spend with anyone anyhoo.
The whole DJing thing has slowed down again but I have a new demo CD in the works which should catupult me back into stardom. Probably.
And now to make an Erkling play a flute... |

Well i'm here and they've given me a computer.
Day 2 at EA and so far its working out pretty damn well. Looks like I will have my work cut out for me though. The team seems really cool and actually play games during their lunch hour. Who'd have thunk.
Getting down here in the morning isn't quite as bad as i'd though it would be. Basically and extra half an hour each way on the first-pass trip strategy. By the looks of it though there are plenty of optimisations to be made.
I actually think I much prefer the bigger company mentality at the moment... |

Today is my last day at Bits Studios.
3 years and 3 games on shelves.
All a bit sad really.
I'm sure the trip down le pub will fix that up though.

A new abode has been founded for the the 5 of us and just in time. We were all set to put an offer down on the place when one of us suddenly pulled out which has made the other 4 of us slightly miffed to say the least. If we'd known all along we were after a 4 bedroom place instead of a 5 it could have been a whole lot easier on us all.
Well. Fuck it we're bidding anyway and we'll find a new 5th.
EA still haven't got back to me about my work permit statuts. I really really hope they get it done by this Friday so I can get my quittin' boots on. At this rate though I wont actually start EA til mid-May at the earliest and I have already booked a holiday to Ibiza for a week in mid-June giving me a one week holiday I ahve to ask for after only being in the new job for a month at best. Fark.
Lisa's finally moved out back to Shepherds Bush and if I end up at this new place it'll pretty much halt us seeing each other at all during the week due to time/distance issues. We do seriously need a break from each other for a while though. I'm not currently built of the stuff that works with a live-in girlfriend type scenario.
I just cant wait to get all these changes unde way though. My new room (if we finally get it) has been labelled the 'porn room' due to one entire massive wall being a mirror. Cant wait to get my mini-geek setup in there! |

Well the big question still hanging for me is "Will this new work permit go through??"
If so i'll be in my new EA position in about 5 weeks. Hopefully sooner than that. I've sent all the documents I need to in and now all I can do is hope n pray.
A bunch of my friends seemed over the moon about this job which was when it finally hit me how cool an oppurtunity this is for me. I can't friggin wait to get started.
In other news though we've been kicked out of our current house as the owners are selling up so we are on the house hunt with less than 3weeks to find a 5 bedroom place. This is proving to be somewhat of a pain in the ass. It will be nice to finally get a room that doesnt slope although this will mean I wont know which way my pint will run when I spill it.
Lisa and I are still going well. She's been living with me for 7 weeks now but is finally moving back into her old place on Tuesday. It will be nice to have my own space back but I will miss having her around all the time.
So new house, new job and basically a big refresh on my whole life.
Its all looking pretty groovy. |

Well on Friday I accepted the new position at EA! I'll be working on the next Harry Potter game and then... who knows! I can't wait to work at a place that has its own private bar, restaurant and gym. Superb.
The only hurdle to go now is my work permit requirements. I basically have to reapply rather than transfer although it means I dont need a reassessment. Its all looking a bit expensive and tricky. Plus they've just changed some of the laws making it all a little harder. Fark knows what i'll do if this doesn't come through.
I ran in the semi-finals on Sunday in a breaks DJ comp agains one other guy... who was good friends with the judges!! Needless to say I lost. Fuckers. Thats 2 comps i've lost out on due to some bias that was out of my control. I know thats not really the point of it all (its the music!) but still an unbiased rating of my skill level would be nice.

I had an interview yesterday with EA games and I think I nailed it. Hopefully sometime today I could get a call that will change the whole course of my London life.
Totally kick ass projects that need coders in a building that makes Perth look small.

I'm not dead! Hoorah!
My innernet has been taken from me at work for quite a while now and the rest of my life is full enough I barely have any time to get on the 'net and write an entry like this.
This situation is now slowly reversing however.
So much news I don't even know where to start. Perhaps we'll just skip it all and start again.
I just found out i'll be DJing for 2 hours on some internet radio show thing (www.smokefm.co.uk) in exactly a week from today. I just hope anyone at all is listening :)
Had 2 DJ competitions recently. I came dead last in the 1st one and came dead 1st in the 2nd one. Go figure. I guess that makes me overall an average DJ? Who can tell...

Joy shall be me taking the day off tomorrow so as to receive my bad ass 5.1 system with all the mod-con decoders and then testing out every game and DVD I own with the beast.

Lisa arrives back in less than 2 weeks! Thats hardly any time at all!
Tomorrow night sees me helping to run a big Tsunami Appeal breaks night that one of my friends is running... somehow he managed not only to score some of the biggest names in breaks to play for free (JDS, Atomic Hooligan, Slyde, Paul Arnold) but he's organised 14 fetishesque dancing girls and has scored the midnight set for himself. Geeperz.
If only I could take Friday off as well... |
